Tinamidae

Tinamidae

Tinamidae is an older family of birds that inhabit the universe. They are birds that have a larger population when compared to other categories in general. The birds have a distinctive category even in their classification. The term diurnal id used to describe these birds meaning that they are very active especially during the day. This category of birds is very shy. They do not like coming into contact with the humans. The contact frightens them and they always hide. This is what gives them a hard time in dealing with the daylight activities when they are most active. Even with an approach from the hideouts, the birds take cover. It is the sole reason why their hideouts are mostly in heavy bushes when man cannot reach.

The Tinamidae bird can fly but this is not exhibited mostly in their daily routine. They are very lazy when it comes to flying. Mostly, they carry out most of the routines while on the ground especially the search for foods. What they depend on is their fast walks and runs when they encounter a prey mostly a human being. During the day, these species roost and sleep actually on the ground in relaxation. However, at times, the birds also sleep in trees.

The Tinamidae is also subjected to terror by the respective preys. When a Tinamidae bird species is threatened, it stands or crouches without any motion. It also can walk and take cover into heavy brush. When frightened, the same species beat their wings making a very loud crowing noise like that of a barking animal. When pressured too much, the birds end up flying low but for only a very short distance. This means that the species is not very secure. A prey can easily catch it, which is why they have reduced in number over time.

Tinamidae birds are polygamous in nature. This means that they take even two or more mates especially in the breeding season. They do not keep any ties to the partners showing how polygamous they get season after another. The only Tinamidae species exempted from this is the tinamou. This is a single male and female kind of a pair of the same bird species. The Tinamidae species vary a great deal during the entire breeding season. Some have specific times while others take it year-round. The specific timings happen during a four-month period only in a year.

The Tinamidae have a well-organized breeding season. In fact, this is a type of birds that you will hardly notice that it is the time for their reproduction. When the Tinamidae breeding season starts, the male usually establishes its individual territory. It builds its own nest by preparing a shallow hole. The hole has a special location. It is always among either trees or some grasses. This is all because of privacy. The birds pursue some privacy during the reproduction period. They are seen to have the most organized mating not like other birds in the different categories.
