Like other birds that begin with the other alphabetical letters, birds whose names begin with letter I are very different and found in totally different parts of the world ranging from Africa, Asia, Americas and some very few numbers can also be found in the temperate regions. they include the following birds:

Iago sparrow

This bird from the Sparrow family is a passerine bird and is also more commonly referred to as Cape Verde Sparrow. This is perhaps coz of the fact that it is more endemic to the Cape Verde Island, which is found to the east of Atlantic Ocean. Sometimes, it is assumed to be a subspecies of the Rofous Sparrow which is native to the African mainland.

Ibadan malimbe

Native to Ibadan City of Nigeria, Ibadan malimbe is a bird species that belongs in the family of birds known as Ploceidae. It has its natural habitat as tropical or subtropical moist lowland forest and faces a serious threat of habitat loss. Iberian Chiffchaff This bird is native to Europe and is known for its breeding openly in the woodlands and is also a widespread leaf warbler. Sometimes it is called the Common Chiffchaff or simply the Chiffchaff.

Ibisbill

Scientifically known as Ibidorhyncha struthersii, Ibisbill is a bird that very much resembles the waders but has some distinct features that make it belong to its own family of Ibidorhynchidae. Its body color is grey and the belly is white, with red legs. It is native to the shingles riverbanks of central Asia, and the Himalayan Ranges.

Iceland Gull

This is a large gull which is known to breed in the Arctic regions of Canada and Greenland where the temperatures are really harsh and where also it is only seen during the winter season. It is migratory and is known to move to the British Isles and the USA.

Icterine Greenbul

This belongs in the songbird species and the family Pycnonotidae. It is native to the African countries of Angola, Cameroon, Republic of Congo, DRC, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea, Gabon, Tanzania, and Uganda. it is yellowish in color and that is where it derives its name.

The Indian cuckoo

The Indian cuckoo belongs to the family of cuckoo birds and in the order of Cuculiformes. It is mainly prevalent in Asia in countries like India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Indonesia and in the Northern Asian country of China and Russia. It is not social but extremely solitary and shy bird and is mainly found inhabiting forests and open woodland up to an altitude of 3600 meters above the sea level.

The Indonesian Teal

This is a type of dabbling duck that is found mostly in the open wetlands in the Indonesian subcontinent. The species also includes the Andaman Teal as well as the Grey Teal.

Imperial Eagle

This is one of the rarest birds of prey in the whole of Europe. It colonizes a range of geographical regions from NE Europe to Lake Baikal in Pakistan in Asia. In the European continent, this rare bird species is mainly to be found in the East Balkans, steppes and hills of Russia and N.E Ukraine.

Iiwi

This is a Hawaiian finch that is also referred to as a Scarlet Hawaiian Honeycreeper and belongs in the Hawaiian honeycreeper subfamily. It is among the most notable species of this family but is also the most endangered and faces threats of extinction.
