There are several birds that have their names beginning with letter F although they are drawn from totally different families, orders and species. They are well spread on the globe but they seem to avoid arctic and Antarctic regions where the temperatures are adversely cold.

Fairy Flycatcher

The Fairy Flycatcher is also called the Fairy Warbler and is native to South Africa. It belongs in the family of birds known as Sylviidae. Known scientifically as Stenostira scita, this is a small passerine bird that was initially classified in the Old World flycatcher family, Muscicapidae. Today, together with some other odd flycatchers, it is now separated as the new family Stenostiridae and is the only known member of the genus Stenostira.

The Fan-tailed Raven

Native to the eastern Africa and the Arabian Peninsula, the Fan-tailed Raven is a passerine bird which belongs in the crow family. It is one of the tiny species in the family and measures just about 47cm in length. In fact, it is just equal in size to the Carrion Crow it has thicker bill and shorter tail.

Fearful Owl

The Fearful Owl is not-so-large type of owl and is mostly found in the Solomon Island and Bougainville in Papua, New Guinea. They mostly inhabit areas that are below 800 meters above sea level and especially like tall lowland or hilly forests. They are taken to nesting in crevices and cracks on the trees.

Feline Owlet-nightjar

Scientifically known as Aegotheles insignis, the Feline Owlet-nightjar represents a bird species in the Aegothelidae family which is most commonly found in the Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. It will inhabit tropical or subtropical wet montanes.

Festive Coquette

The Festive Coquette (Lophornis chalybeus) belongs in the family Trochilidae and in the species of hummingbird. It inhabits mainly the South Western region of South America and more specifically to the Western side of the Amazon Basin. Specific countries are Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, Colombia, and Venezuela. It is also found to the South East in Bolivia, and also in Argentina.

Fairy Prion

Scientifically christened Pachyptila turtur, it is a relatively small sea bird that has standard Prion Plumage This bird forms the smallest Prion and it measures between 23 and 28 cm in length. It has blue-grey plumage on its upperparts and the underside is white in color. They have a wedge-shaped tail and have a dark tip plus an M that also extends to the tips of their wings .The bill and the feet are both blue in color.

Fiery minivet

Belonging in the family Campephagidae of which it is the smallest member, it was first uncovered as an independent species in 1846 during an expedition in Indonesia, after which it was taken to be a separate bird. They are fairly small birds with a length measurement that range from 15 to 16.5 cm. and their weight is in the neighborhood of between 14 to 16 grams. Males are characterized with black upperparts as well as throats and bright red breasts belly and the outer tail feathers.

Fiji Woodswallow

Its scientific name is Artamus mentalis and it is a species of woodswallow which belongs in the family Artamidae. As can clearly be seen from its name, it is most commonly found in the Central American Republic of Fiji.
