The birds whose names begin with letter C are outlined below. Like the birds whose names start with letter B, they also have a wide range of characteristics and are drawn from different families and orders. No one unifying characteristic among them can be said of them apart from the fact that all of them are birds. Caprimulgidae The family Caprimulgidae is the largest in the order Caprimulgiformes. Their full body size from head to tail measure between 6 to 16 inches (15 to 40 cm). They are light in weight and measure 0.7 to 6.6 oz (20 to 188 grams). Caprimulgiformes This is an order of birds with similar characteristics. The birds making this order are mainly nocturnal and as such have a very powerful vision to aide them hunt for food at night. Cariamidae Seriema Theses birds are to be found in ancient family called Caeiamadae. All but Seriemas are extinct. This family is thus far the only one belonging to Cariamae. Casuriidae The term Casuriidae is scientific for a bird family which today has only four surviving members. These members include three species of cassowary and another one called the emus. Previously, the emus were classified in their own family but have since been moved to this family coz of their striking similarities with these other birds. Charadrii Charadrii is sub-order of birds that is mainly composed of waders. They belong to the order Charadriiformes which does not include the web-footed marine birds. Examples of particular bird species include gulls, skimmers, skuas, auks and terns. Charadriiformes This is a fairly large order of birds consisting of fowls that range from small, medium to large birds. It has some evenly distributed world wide 350 number of species. Their livelihoods depend so much on water and as such mostly live near water bodies. Chionididae These birds are members of the Chionididae family and are so called coz of their trademark sheath that covers their bills. They migrate often and are residents of Antarctic. Chionidi-Wader The Waders are birds that belong in the order Charadriiformes and their name means they move in water every so often. They have webbed feet that enhances their motion in water while hunting for fish and other offshore feeds. Caprimulgidae- night jar Caprimulgidae represents the largest family of birds in the order Caprimulgiformes. Their head to tail measurement is between 15 to 40 cm. they are comparatively light in weight, weighing just between 20 to 188 grams. Columbdae Pigeons and doves are the main members of this bird family which belongs in the order Columbiformes. This family is divided into five subfamilies which are then further subdivided into 42 genera and 308 species. Cuculidae This is a large family of birds that is composed of more than 120 bird species. Among the most outstanding members of this species are the cuckoos, the anis and the roadrunners. The pheasant cuckoo measures around 13 cm, the roadrunners measure 56cm on average while the anis, which is sometimes referred to as black cuckoo coz of its black plumage, measure an average of 46cm. Cracidae This is a small group of animals that has only 30 bird species which are spread out in 11 genera. They are broadly classified into three subcategories which are the Guans, Chachalacas and Curassows. They look like the turkey and the pheasants
