Anhimidae is a bird group also known as screamers. They inhabit tropical wetlands including lagoons, lakes, swamps and marshes, open savannas, flood plains and meadows. This is usually the region in the tropical forests. They love to be in such an environment that is cold and calm for their survival. This is in relation to their favorite niches that they inhabit being the wetlands in the densest forests. Anhimidae incubate their eggs for 42-47 days. Their chicks are precocial having a gray-yellow covering especially after birth. The birds take about eight to ten weeks in their fledging process. This is when they start becoming strong and can survive on their own. Usually, they gain independence from their respective mothers at an age about 12-14 weeks. This is the time they can outsource for themselves and develop tactics of feeding themselves without the help of their mothers. Generally, the screamers are actually large birds. They are 76-95 cm in size, 3000-44000 g in weight and approximately 170 cm of their wingspan. For their appearance, they are generally goose-like, a shape that has a small head, like that of a chicken. Usually, the female screamers are a bit smaller than the male screamer birds. This is a characteristic unlike other birds where the whole concept is the opposite. Their plumage is gray in color or close to greenish-black, holding a white on the head, forewing and the neck. The screamers juveniles have at least a duller plumage with shorter spurs when compared to adults. Their ornamental feathers are inclusive of tufts on slender and nape. Their respective feathers are a bit continuous. They do not have feather tracts. The Iris one has a range of both yellow and orange colors. Their short bill has a hook, having reduced lamellae actually on the inside of the respective upper jaw. The respective legs of the screamers are actually thick and their front toes are very long with a connection by the shallow webbing actually at the base. In their living, the screamers are herbivorous in nature. They feed on the leaves primarily. Other foods include flowers, stems and root mostly those of aquatic vegetation. The adult birds have a better chance of feeding on the forage on seeds, stems and leaves of other plants. They can also feed on arthropods and insects summarizing their dietary status. Screamers are seasonally monogamous. They like living in monogamous families rather than groups. This is unlike other types of birds that are usually in groups especially during the mating seasons. Their nest-sites as well as mates are usually maintained all along in the successive years or probably can be maintained even for life. The breeding process of these birds is usually at a certain period during the year. It happens usually in December, a time when summer is on. This is to allow successful breeding and growth of the little ones. This is a bird of a kind and unique in character.
