DESCRIPTION
3'/2 inches (9cm). Olive-brown upperparts, yellow below, red
rump, orange breast, red streak through eyes. Eyes brown, beak coral red,
legs brown. Female duller.
NATURAL DISTRIBUTION
Africa, south of the Sahara.
HABITAT
Grassland and cultivated areas.
DIET Seeds, insects. SPECIAL NEEDS
Golden Breasted Waxbill may be aggressive towards other birds during breeding
season, so provide enough plantlife for hiding places in aviary.
CAGE LIFE
Keep the Golden Breasted Waxbill in an outside aviary in summer, in warmer
area (around 64°F/18°C) in winter. Does not adapt easily to captivity
and breeding results rare. May lay a few unfertilized eggs.
